ABBREVIATIONS:

SIZE:

Approximately 17" (43 cm) tall x 16" (40.5 cm) in diameter

MATERIALS:

  • #3 Light Weight Yarn: we used Bernat® Baby Coordinates Yarn, available at Walmart: 140g/5 oz. – 1 ball Blue Bon Bon (MC); 1 ball White (color A); 1 ball Iced Mint (color B)
  • Boye® US size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stuffing
  • 2 Buttons

GAUGE:

15 hdc and 12 rows = 4" (10 cm). Take time to check gauge.

Step 2

STRIPE PATTERNS

Stripe Pattern A—These 15 rnds form Stripe Pattern A:

  • 3 rnds A
  • 3 rnds B
  • 3 rnds A
  • 6 rnds MC

Stripe Pattern B—These 12 rnds form Stripe Pattern B:

  • 3 rnds A
  • 3 rnds B
  • 3 rnds A
  • 3 rnds MC

Step 3

DIRECTIONS

Note: Ch2 at beg of each rnd does not count as hdc.

Body

With MC, ch 3.

Rnd 1: 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnds 2-3: Ch 2. 2 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 40 hdc at end of Rnd 3.

Rnd 4: Ch 2. *1 hdc in next hdc. 2 hdc in next hdc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 60 hdc.

Rnd 5-13: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first hdc. Join A at end of Rnd 13.

Rnds 14-15: With A, ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first hdc. Join B at end of Rnd 15.

Rnds 16-17: With B, ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first hdc. Join A at end of Rnd 17.

Rnd 18: With A, ch 2. 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 19: Ch 2. *1 hdc in each of next 8 hdc. (Yoh and draw up loop in next st) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – hdc2tog made. Rep from * around. Join MC with sl st to first hdc - 54 sts.

Rnd 20: Ch 2. *1 hdc in each of next 7 hdc. Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 48 sts.

Rnds 21-26: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 27: Ch 2. *1 hdc in each of next 4 hdc. Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 40 sts.

Rnd 28: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 29: Ch 2. *1 hdc in each of next 3 hdc. Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 32 sts. Stuff body firmly.

Rnd 30: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 31: Ch 2. *1 hdc in each of next 2 hdc. Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 24 sts.

Rnd 32: Ch 2. *1 hdc in next st. Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first hdc - 16 sts. Stuff remainder of body.

Rnd 33: Ch 2. *Hdc2tog. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto yarn needle and through rem sts and fasten securely.

Step 4

Ears (Make 2)

With B, ch 2.

**Rnd 1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc - 16 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc - 24 sc.**

Rnds 4-8: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off at end of last rnd. Fold ear in half. Sew to side of body as shown in photo.

Step 5

Muzzle

With A, work from ** to ** as given for ears.

Next 2 rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off at end of last rnd.

Step 6

Nose

With MC, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnds 2-4: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Stuff Nose.

Rnd 5: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. Rep from * 3 times more. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto yarn needle and draw through rem sts and fasten securely.

Sew nose to muzzle. With MC, embroider mouth on muzzle. Stuff muzzle lightly and sew to front of body as shown in photo.

Step 7

Legs (Make 2)

***With A, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc - 16 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc - 24 sc.

Rnds 4-7: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Join MC with sl st at end of Rnd 7.

Rnd 8: With MC, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 9: Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around - 16 sts.

Rnd 10: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join A with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 11: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.***

First 2 rnds of Stripe Pat A are complete. Cont working even in Stripe Pat A until Leg measures approximately 8" [20.5 cm]. Fasten off. Stuff bottom of leg lightly.

Step 8

Arms (Make 2)

Work from *** to *** as given for legs.

First rnd of Stripe Pat B is complete. Cont working even in Stripe Pat B until 12 rnds are complete. Fasten off. Stuff bottom of arms lightly.

Step 9

FINISHING

Attach arms and legs to body as shown in photo. Sew on buttons for eyes.
