FINISHING THE TABLE RUNNER—See PDF instructions for diagram:
Layer the backing fabric wrong side up, then the batting, and then the pieced table runner top right side up. Baste the layers together.
Quilt as desired. The table runner shown was quilted in the ditch around all of the diamonds and also echo quilted within the large diamonds. After quilting, baste stitch 1/8" around the outside edges of the table runner to keep the layers together.
Carefully trim the backing and batting a generous 1/4" larger than the pieced top to allow for a 1/2" binding seam allowance.
Stitch the 3" binding strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold and press the binding in half along the length to make double fold binding.
Sew the binding to the table runner front along the edges by machine using a 1/2" seam allowance.
Flip the binding to the back ensuring there is 1/2" showing on the front and hand stitch in place with matching thread.
