Step 1

Goggles

DIRECTIONS

MATERIALS

  • Goggles and fascinator pattern – See page 3 for pattern in pdf format, which will print on one sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
  • 2 - 6" x 3" pieces of synthetic leather, each in two colors – we used Dark Brown and Tan
  • 1 – 5" x 2" piece of lightweight plastic
  • 1/2 yard of 1/2" wide elastic
  • 1 – 1/2" slide buckle
  • Scissors
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Matching thread
  • Fabric glue
  • Assorted gear charms

Step 2

Using the enclosed pattern, cut out the goggles components as follows:

  • Cut outer goggles from dark brown synthetic leather; cut out eye holes
  • Cut inner goggles from tan leather – cut out eye holes
  • Cut goggle lenses from lightweight plastic

Step 3

With the RIGHT side of the outer goggles facing up, place a thin line of glue around the cut edge of the eye holes. Place the lenses on top of the glue, centering each lens over its respective eye hole. Press down to set and allow to dry.

Step 4

Place a thin layer of glue on the WRONG side of the inner goggles. Place the inner goggles with glue side DOWN on top of the outer goggles with lenses, lining up the eye holes. The lenses should be sandwiched in between the inner and outer goggles. Press down to set and allow to dry completely.

Step 5

Cut two lengths of elastic, each measuring 8" long. On the WRONG side of the goggles, place one end of one length of elastic at the side, overlapping approximately 5/8". Glue in place to secure. For extra strength, add a few hand stitches, stitching through all layers. Stitching will show on the right side of the goggles, but this will be covered with gear charms later. Repeat with other length of elastic on opposite end of goggles.

Step 6

Slide the center bar of the buckle over free end of one length of elastic. Turn end back approximately 1/2" and hand-stitch in place to secure.

Step 7

On RIGHT side of goggles, glue gear charms as desired, using the photo as a guide. Be sure to cover any stitching. Allow to dry completely before placing on doll.

Step 8

Fascinator

MATERIALS

  • Goggles and fascinator pattern – See page 3 for pattern in pdf format, which will print on one sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
  • 3" x 4" piece of medium to heavy weight fabric, such as brocade, chenille, wool blends, duchess satin or wool felt
  • 3" x 4" piece of heavyweight non-woven fusible interfacing
  • 1/3 yard of 3/8" to 1/2" wide flexible braid
  • Scissors
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Fabric glue
  • 1 - alligator barrette clip
  • Assorted feathers, gear charms, beads and gemstones

Step 9

Following manufacturer’s directions, fuse interfacing to the WRONG side of the fabric.

Step 10

Using the enclosed pattern, cut out fascinator. Cut along the solid "slash" line, as indicated on the pattern.

Step 11

Overlap ends of slash 1/2" to form a rounded shape. Glue overlapped section together, using alligator barrette clip to hold in place. Allow to dry completely. Remove clip.

Step 12

Glue braid along the outer edge of the fascinator, being sure to cover the cut edge of the fascinator slightly. Overlap trim ends 1/4" and glue down to secure. Clip off any excess trim. Allow to dry completely.

Step 13

Glue feathers, gear charms, beads and gemstones as desired, using the photo as a guide. Allow to dry completely.

Step 14

Glue FLAT side of alligator barrette clip to WRONG side of fascinator at the overlapped end. Note: use a bit of masking tape to hold clip in place until completely dry.
