STUDDED ACCESSORIES

Get edgy with studs - Project Runway® Plastic Pyramid Chain trim by Simplicity® can be cut to fit and glued or sewn on for heavy-metal impact in an instant.


 

CHANDELIER EARRINGS

Materials Needed:

  • 4" length of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Gold 1861272928
  • Scissors
  • 1 pair flat pad earring post and butterfly clutch
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Cut two squares of pyramid stud trim, each measuring 5 studs X 5 studs.
  2. Cover one flat pad earring post with adhesive. Press into center back of one corner pyramid stud.
  3. Repeat Step 2 with other flat pad earring post.
  4. Allow to dry 24 hours before wearing.

 

STUD EARRINGS

Materials Needed:

  • 1" length of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Silver 1861272070
  • Scissors
  • 1 pair flat pad earring post and butterfly clutch
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Cut apart two pyramid studs from trim to obtain individual studs.
  2. Cover one flat pad earring post with adhesive. Press into center back of one pyramid stud.
  3. Repeat Step 2 on other flat pad earring post.
  4. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

 

FEDORA HEADBAND

Materials Needed:

  • One fedora hat
  • 1 yard of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Black 1861272031
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Measure circumference of hat at base, to determine length of hat band needed. Cut plastic pyramid chain trim to this measurement.
  2. If hat already has a band, measure width of band to determine how many rows of pyramid studs will cover band. If hat does not have a band, determine how wide you would like your band to be. Trim plastic pyramid chain trim to width desired by trimming off rows of studs from one long edge of trim.
  3. Cover WRONG side of plastic pyramid chain trim with adhesive.
  4. Starting from center back of hat, press trim into place, covering existing hat band. Adhere all around hat until ends meet at the center back.
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

 

HEADBAND

Materials Needed:

  • 14" length of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Silver 1861272070
  • 5" length of 1" wide Band Knit Stretch trim – we used 1863187031
  • 8" length of 7/8" wide Velvet Band trim – we used 1861077031
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Directions:

  1. Trim 2 rows off of long edge of plastic pyramid chain trim, so you have a length of trim measuring 14" long by 4 rows of pyramid studs wide.
  2. On WRONG side of trim, lap one end of band knit stretch trim 1/2" (approximately 2 pyramid studs wide). Hot glue in place. Repeat on other end – when this is complete you will have a complete circle.
  3. Cut velvet band trim into two lengths, each measuring 4" long.
  4. Hot glue velvet trim around each connection where pyramid chain trim and band knit stretch trim are glued together, wrapping velvet around to give a finished look.
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

 

MILITARY HAT

Materials Needed:

  • Military style hat with bill
  • 1/2 yard of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Black 1861272031
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Measure width of hat bill. Cut a length of plastic pyramid chain trim to this measurement.
  2. Cover WRONG side of plastic pyramid chain trim with adhesive.
  3. Press trim into place on front of hat, aligning the ends of the trim with the left and right edges of the hat bill.
  4. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

 

BALLET FLATS

Materials Needed:

  • 1 pair of ballet flats
  • 1 yard of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Gold 1861272928
  • Scissors
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Cut apart plastic pyramid chain trim into individual pyramid studs.
  2. Cover WRONG side of one pyramid stud with adhesive.
  3. Starting from center back of ballet flat, press stud into place, holding it briefly to set.
  4. Continue gluing pyramid studs individually to shoe, spacing them as desired and using photo as a guide. Repeat with other shoe.
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

 

MOTORCYCLE JACKET

Materials Needed:

  • One motorcycle-style jacket
  • 1 yard of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Gold 1861272928
  • Scissors
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Cut apart plastic pyramid chain trim into individual pyramid studs.
  2. Lay jacket on a flat surface, front facing you. Unzip jacket and fold open the two extended front lapels.
  3. Cover WRONG side of one pyramid stud with adhesive.
  4. Press pyramid stud onto top outer corner of right extended front lapel.
  5. Continue gluing pyramid studs to lapel in grid pattern, leaving a space approximately one pyramid stud's width in between each stud. Continue pattern until you reach the natural fold of the jacket lapel.
  6. Repeat Steps 3-6 for left extended front lapel.
  7. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

Optional: Cut and adhere stud trim to shoulders, back or cuffs of jacket as desired – you will need extra trim as follows – approximately 1 yard for shoulders, 1 yard for back, and 1 yard for cuffs.


 

BOOTIE HEELS

Materials Needed:

Directions:

  1. Cut apart plastic pyramid chain trim into individual pyramid studs.
  2. With chalk or washout pencil, draw an arch from the center back top of the seam of the bootie to meet the beginning of the right edge of the heel. Repeat on left side to complete the arch.
  3. Cover WRONG side of one pyramid stud with adhesive.
  4. Press pyramid stud at top left center back seam of bootie, holding it in place for a bit to set. Continue gluing pyramid studs to bootie, following arch line.
  5. When arch outline has been completed, fill in heel with pyramid studs, spacing them as desired and using photo as a guide.
  6. Repeat Steps 2-5 for other shoe.
  7. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

Optional: for even more impact, add studs to heels as well. You will need an additional 1/4 yard of trim to cover heels.


 

BELT

Materials Needed:

  • One belt
  • 1 to 1-1/2 yard of 2" wide Plastic Pyramid Chain trim – we used Black 1861272031, depending on the length of your belt
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Strong adhesive, suitable for jewelry or plastic

Directions:

  1. Measure width of belt to determine how many rows of pyramid studs will fit. For example, a skinny belt may only fit 1 row of pyramid studs, a medium width belt may fit 2-3 rows, a wide belt may fit up to all 6 rows. Trim off excess rows of pyramid studs from one long edge of trim.
  2. Measure length of belt from base of buckle to the first hole at opposite end. Cut a length of trim to this measurement.
  3. Cover WRONG side of plastic pyramid chain trim with adhesive.
  4. Starting at the base of the belt buckle, press trim to RIGHT side of belt. Adhere trim to belt until you reach the holes at the other end.
  5. Allow to dry for 24 hours before wearing.
