    Instructions

Cut the strips as indicated in the Cutting Directions. You will further cut Easy Angle™ triangles (for triangle squares) and squares to make the basic blocks for the quilt.

First, pair the 1 1/2" strips of fabric #1 and fabric #4, right sides together, and cut 16-1 1/2" Easy Angle™ triangles. Chain sew, press open, and trim "dog-ears."

Sew the 1" fabric #4 strips to the 1" fabric #1 strip and press seam to one side.

    Use Easy Angle to cut 5 -- 3 1/2" squares from the 3 1/2" fabric #1 strip, 4 -- 1 1/2" squares from the 1 1/2" fabric #1 strip, and 16 -- 1 1/2" squares from the sewn strips of fabric #1 and fabric #4.

Next, make 4 Churn Dash blocks using the triangle squares and 1 1/2 " squares from above. As you make the blocks, press seams in the directions indicated by the smaller arrows.

Then measure the blocks (they should be 3 1/2", the same size as the larger plain squares that you cut.) Cut 4 strips this length from the 1" strips of fabric #2. Lay out the blocks and sashing strips into three rows. Sew the rows together and measure the width (should be 10 1/2"). Cut two strips this length from the 1" strips of fabric #2. Place these strips between the rows and sew together as indicated.

Add an inside border using the remaining 1" strips of fabric #2. Add an outside border using the 2 1/2" strips of fabric #3.

Cut 5 each of apple, leaf, and stem from fabric #4, using the images at right for reference. The seam allowance is not included. Fuse or applique the pieces onto the center of each of the 5 plain blocks.

Layer and quilt as desired. Bind in fabric #2 using the 1 1/4" strips.
