Instructions
Piecing Directions
Five of the blocks contain 4-patches in the corners. To quickly construct all the 4-patches, sew the 2" yellow solid and medium blue print strips together in pairs (see illustration 1). Press the seams towards the
blue print, being careful to keep the strip set straight. Cut the strip sets into forty 2" wide units. Sew two units together, alternating colors, to make a 4-patch (see illustration 2). Press. Make a total of twenty 4-patches.
Block 1
Cut 8 - 2" strips from strip set for 4-patches
Cut 4 - Tri pieces from 3 1/2" strip of yellow
Cut 8 - Recs pieces from 3 1/2" strip of dark blue print
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print
Construct four Tri-Recs units following the directions in the Tri-Recs package.
Sew the 3 1/2" square of medium blue between two Tri-Recs units to make the center row of the block. Press towards the center square.
Sew 4-patches to both sides of the remaining Tri-Recs units. (Watch the placement of the blue squares!) Press towards the 4-patches.
Join the three rows to make the block. Press the seams toward the center row.
Block 2
Cut 8 - 2" strips from strip set for 4-patches
Lay yellow and dark blue print 3 1/2" strips, right sides together, and cut 4 Easy Angle triangles
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print
Sew on the diagonal edge of the triangles, forming four squares. Press towards the blue triangle.
Sew a 3 1/2" medium blue square between two triangle squares to make the center row. Press toward the square.
Sew 4-patches on both sides of the remaining two triangle-squares. (Watch the placement of the blue squares!) Press towards the 4-patches.
Join the three rows. Press the seams toward the center.
Block 3
Cut 8 - 2" strips from strip set for 4-patches
Cut 4 - Companion AngleTM triangles from 2" strip of yellow
Cut 4 - 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles from 2" strip of yellow
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print
Cut 8 - Easy AngleTM triangles from 2" strip of dark blue
To construct the star point unit, sew a dark blue triangle to the right edge of the yellow Companion Angle triangle. Press toward the blue triangle.
Sew another blue triangle to the left side of this unit and press toward the blue triangle. Make four units.
Add a yellow rectangle to the top of each unit and press toward the rectangle.
Sew two star point units to a 3 1/2" medium blue square. Press toward the square.
Sew 4-patches to both sides of the remaining star point units. Press toward the 4-patches.
Join the three rows. Press the seams toward the center.
Block 4
Cut 8 - 2" squares from the medium blue print
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print
Cut 4 - Companion AngleTM triangles from 2" yellow strip
Cut 16 - Easy AngleTM triangles from 2" yellow strip
Cut 4 - Companion AngleTM triangles. from 2" dark blue strip
Cut 16 - Easy AngleTM triangles from 2" dark blue strip
Assemble eight star point units following the previous directions. Four of the star points will have yellow Companion Angle triangles and blue star points, and the other 4 will have blue Companion Angle triangles and yellow star points.
Join the two different star point units in pairs as in the illustration. Press the seam toward the blue Companion Angle triangle.
Assemble the triangle squares for the 4-patches. Assemble the 4-patch units for the corners using the illustration as a guide.
Sew two star point units to both sides of a 3 1/2" medium blue square. Press toward the square.
Sew 4-patches to both sides of the remaining star point units. Press toward the 4-patches.
Join the three rows. Press the seams toward the center.
Block 5
Cut 8 - 2" strips from strip set for 4-patches
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print
Layer 2" dark blue print and yellow strips, right sides together, and cut 8 pairs of Companion AngleTM triangles
Sew the triangles together on the right diagonal edge, with the same fabric on top each time. Press the seam toward the blue fabric.
Join the units in pairs to make the star points. Press.
Sew a 3 1/2" medium blue square between two star point units. Press toward the blue square.
Sew 4-patches on both sides of the remaining star point units. (Watch placement!) Press the seams toward the 4-patches.
Join the three rows. Press the seams toward the center.
Block 6
Cut 8 - 2" strips from strip set for 4-patches
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square from medium blue print strip
Cut 4 - Tri pieces from 3 1/2" dark blue print strip
Cut 8 - Recs pieces from 3 1/2" yellow print strip
Assemble four Tri-Recs units following the directions in the package. Note the colors are reversed from Block 1.
Sew a 3 1/2" medium blue square between two of the Tri-Recs units. Press toward the square.
Sew a 4-patch to both sides of the remaining Tri-Recs units. (Watch placement!) Press toward the 4-patches.
Join the three rows. Press the seams toward the center.
Directions for Sashes, Border, and Binding
From yellow solid cut:
5 - 2" strips, recut into 17 - 9 1/2" sashes
From medium blue fabric cut:
1 - 2" strip, recut into 12 stepping stones
From dark blue print cut:
4 - 3 1/2" strips for border
Using the quilt picture as a guide, sew the sashing strips and blocks together in two rows of three blocks. Press the seams toward the sashes.
Construct three horizontal sashing rows made up of three sashing strips and four blue stepping stones. Press the seams toward the sashes.
Join the rows of blocks and horizontal sashes. Press toward the sashing.
Borders
Cut two border strips the exact width of the quilt.
Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press toward the border.
Cut two border strips the exact length of the quilt, including the borders just added.
Sew to the sides of the quilt. Press the seams toward the blue borders.
Layer, baste, quilt and bind.
