cutting directions

assembling the flowers
STEP 1 Fold each wedge in half on the top (widest edge). Stitch a 1/4" seam across the top edge with a shorter stitch length (to eliminate backstitching at the fold). Turn and press. Repeat for all 80 wedges.

STEP 2 Join the wedges in sets of five. Match two wedges at the fold. Begin stitching 1/2" from the folded edges, backstitch to the folded edges, then stitch forward for the remainder of the seam. This will hide your thread ends.

STEP 3 Step 3 Join four sets of five wedges to make a Dresden Plate (20 wedges). Press the seams all one direction around the center. Center and baste in place on the white background square. Appliqué or buttonhole stitch around the edge of the plate. Repeat for all four plates.
STEP 4 Turn the edges under on all four of the circles (or fuse) and appliqué or buttonhole stitch the centers in the middle of each flower. Cut away the extra fabric behind the Dresden Plate and the center if you desire.
assembling the quilt
STEP 1 Sew together three strip sets of large red floral print/white-red floral print/large red floral print. Press the seams toward the dark red strips. Cut:
- 4—18-3/4" borders
- 4—8-1/2" sashes
- 6—1-1/4" units for 9-patches
STEP 3 Sew together five nine-patch blocks that look like this:

STEP 4 Sew a sashing strip between two blocks. Repeat. Press toward the sashes. Sew a nine-patch block between the remaining two sashes. Press toward the long sashes. Sew between the block rows.
STEP 5 Sew an 18-3/4" border to the top of the quilt. Repeat for the bottom of the quilt. Sew the remaining nine-patch blocks at the ends of the two remaining borders. Sew to the sides of the quilt.
finishing the quilt
STEP 1 Layer, baste and quilt as desired. Sew buttons to the center of each flower.
STEP 2 Before binding, hand-baste a scant 1/4" around the edge of the quilt to hold the layers together. Prepare the binding by joining the binding ends with diagonal seams pressed open. Fold the binding in half, wrong sides together and press to make a double binding. Sew to the quilt with a 1/4" seam, mitering the corners.
STEP 3 Trim the excess batting and backing, turn the binding to the back side and stitch down by hand with matching thread.
