Dress this adorable crochet kitten in her new bikini, and it’s time to hit the beach! Enjoy your new amigurumi best friend. Designed by Plain Jane Knitwear.

Step: 1

Step 1

GETTING STARTED: Download the PDF for a set of portable project instructions. Read through all of the instructions before beginning.

MATERIALS:

  • About 120 yards (110m) of worsted weight #4, 100% cotton yarn in Mint for the kitten body
  • Small amounts of Yellow, Coral, and White worsted weight #4, 100% cotton yarn for bikini and face details
  • Size F / 3.75 Aluminum Boye® Crochet Hook (or size needed to obtain a tight crochet fabric)
  • 1 set of 12MM safety eyes or embroidery thread
  • Tapestry needle for sewing
  • Scrap of yarn for stitch marker
  • Polyfill stuffing

See the Supply List for items you can purchase here.

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • St - Stitch
  • Ch - Chain
  • Rnd - Round
  • Sl St - Slip Stitch
  • Sc - Single Crochet
  • Sc2tog - Single Crochet Two Together (Insert hook into next stitch, pull up one loop, insert hook into second stitch, pull up one loop, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.)

GAUGE:

Gauge isn’t important for this project, as long as your stitches create a tight fabric so stuffing won’t show through.

NOTES:

Pattern is worked in continuous rounds; do not join unless otherwise noted. Joining rounds will make an ugly seam up the back of your work. Place marker at end of each round, moving it up as each round is completed.

Finishing the Kitten

Stuff body/head piece, keeping body somewhat flat. Using the yarn tail from round 29, whipstitch across the bottom to make a flat seam (be sure to add the face details before sewing seam shut, otherwise you won’t be able to attach the safety eyes). Secure with a knot and weave in end. Set aside.

Lightly stuff arm. Using the yarn tail from round 6, whipstitch the bottom to make a flat seam. Secure with a knot, weave in end. Set aside. Repeat on second arm.

Lightly stuff leg. Using the yarn tail from round 9, whipstitch the bottom to make a flat seam. Secure with a knot, weave in end. Set aside. Repeat on second leg.

Don’t stuff ears. Using the yarn tail from round 6, whipstitch the bottom to make a flat seam. Secure with a knot, weave in end. Set aside. Repeat on second ear.

Using the photo as a guide (page 8), thread tapestry needle with mint yarn and sew ears to top of head, arms to the sides of the body, and legs to the bottom seam of the body. Secure all ends with a knot, and weave them in.
