Cross Stitch Autumn Leaf Napkin Rings

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Make lovely autumn leaf buttons in counted cross stitch for a set of napkin rings you'll be proud to use. Finished button size is 1-1/8".

Step: 1

DMC THREAD COLORS NEEDED:

  • 351 Light red
  • 350 Red
  • 922 Orange
  • 745 Light yellow
  • 725 Yellow
  • 977 Gold
  • 3819 Pale green
  • 470 Light green
  • 987 Green
  • 3826 Orange Brown
  • 801 Brown

YOU WILL ALSO NEED:

  • 18 count ivory Aida, a 2" square for each design, or a larger piece to stitch all four at once
  • Cross stitch needle
  • Button making kit for size 45 (1-1/8") craft buttons
  • Brown felt

Step: 2

GETTING STARTED:
Download the PDF for the Cross Stitch Autumn Leaf Napkin Rings Project. We recommend that you mount your fabric in a hoop or stretcher frame for best results in stitching. To stitch all four leaves at once, find the center of the fabric and mark it with a pin.

Step: 3

STITCHING THE DESIGN:
Find the center on your chart and count to the nearest leaf to begin stitching at the corresponding point on your fabric. Follow the chart to complete the cross stitch part of the design. Add the back stitch details.

Step: 4

FINISHING:
Use the button making kit to finish the leaves into individual buttons. Cut strips of brown felt 1-1/2" wide to the desired length to use as napkin rings. Use contrasting thread to add a decorative running stitch in the center of the length and also to stitch the ends together to form a ring. Sew the buttons in place opposite the seam on each.
