SEWING INSTRUCTIONS:

All seams are sewn right sides together with 1/4" seam allowance.

Step: 2

ASSEMBLING THE BLOCKS:

Choose a pink A and a white B. Fold each piece in half to find the center of the curved side.

Place the curved side of the white B on top of the curved side of the pink A, right sides together, matching and pinning centers and ends.

Sew the curved seam, always keep the A shape on top. Align the fabric edges as they are stitched. Press toward the B shape. This completes one 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" square block. When finished, there are 168 – 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" Drunkard’s Path Blocks.

Sew A and B shapes together in the following combinations (see Fig. 1 in PDF instructions):

  • Blue A and White B: 40 blocks
  • Blue B and White A: 15 blocks
  • Yellow A and White B: 42 blocks
  • Yellow B and White A: 30 blocks
  • Pink A and White B: 26 blocks
  • Pink B and White A: 15 blocks

Step: 3

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT:

Using the diagram of the quilt, piece the blocks together in rows of twelve (see Fig. 2 in PDF instructions). Press all the seams in a row in one direction, alternating the direction of the rows in every other row.

Join the rows, matching and pinning seam intersections.

Step: 4

FINISHING THE QUILT:

Create a quilt backing that is at least 4" larger than the quilt top.

On a flat surface, make a quilt sandwich by layering the backing fabric right side down, then the batting, then the quilt top right side up. Baste the quilt every three to four inches with 1" quilt basting safety pins.

Quilt as desired.

After quilting, baste stitch 1/4" around the outside edges of the quilt to keep the layers together.

Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold and press in half lengthwise to make double binding.

Sew the binding to the quilt front along the quilt edge in a 3/8" seam allowance.

Trim the backing and batting even with the quilt top.

Flip the binding to the back of the quilt and stitch down with matching thread.

Make a label with your name and date and sew it onto the back of your quilt. Tip: Sew the label onto the back before quilting so that the quilting stitches permanently attach it to the quilt.
