Here are four simple fashion ties to accessorize your wardrobe. Change the color or pattern for a whole new look!

Step: 1

GETTING STARTED:
There are directions here for FOUR different fashion ties. Each will have its own supply list and step by step. Download the PDF for a pattern and diagram used on two of the projects—the Classic School Girl Fashion Tie and the Blossom Knot Fashion Tie. Read through all of the instructions before beginning.

Step: 2

SLIM FASHION TIE:
Materials Needed:

  • 1/8 yard light or medium weight woven fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pencil
  • Fabric shears or scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine

Directions:
Cut a 2-1/2" x 40" piece of fabric.

With the right sides together, stitch a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a small opening for turning. Clip corners. Turn right side out through opening and press.

Topstitch opening with matching thread close to outer edge.

Tie with a bow.

Step: 3

CLASSIC SCHOOL GIRL FASHION TIE:
Materials Needed:

  • 1/4 yard light or medium weight woven fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pencil or chalk
  • Fabric shears or scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • PDF pattern

Directions:
Cut two 3-1/2" x 43" pieces of fabric.

Fold each piece of fabric in half, bringing the short ends together.

Use a ruler and chalk to mark a line across the width 6" from the fold as shown in the diagram. Mark a second line across the width 9" from the fold.

Working from the fold to the first chalk line, mark a lengthwise chalk line, 3/4" from both outer edges.

Mark a diagonal chalk line from point A on the first to point B on the second chalk line as shown.

With the right sides together, stitch a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a small area for turning. Clip corners. Turn right side out through opening and press.

Topstitch opening with matching thread close to the outer edge.

Tie with a bow.

Step: 4

BLOSSOM KNOT FASHION TIE:
Materials Needed:

  • 1/4 yard light or medium weight woven fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pencil
  • Fabric shears or scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine

Directions:
Cut two 44" x 5" pieces of fabric.

With right sides together, position the template on the short end of the fabric strip. Mark a cutting line along the curved edge of the template and cut. Repeat for the other end.

With right sides together, sew using a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a small opening for turning. Clip corners. Turn right side out through opening and press.

Topstitch opening with matching thread close to outer edge.

Tie with a loose square knot.

Step: 5

SOFT LOOP FASHION TIE:
Materials Needed:

  • 1/4 yard light or medium weight woven fabric
  • Ruler
  • Marking pencil
  • Fabric shears or scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • 2 small snaps
  • Hand sewing needle

Directions:
Cut 1 each of the following:

  • 33" x 3" (tie)
  • 16" x 6" (bow)
  • 4" x 2-1/2" (knot)

Tie:With the right sides together, stitch a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a small opening for turning. Clip corners. Turn right side out through opening and press. Topstitch opening with matching thread close to outer edge.

Bow: With right sides together, stitch a 1/4" seam allowance leaving both short edges open for turning. Turn right side out, bringing seam to center on the underside; press.

Fold bow in half along center line. Stitch a 1/4" seam allowance. Gather along the center line through all thicknesses. Pull up gathering stitches to desired fullness. Fasten ends securely in a knot.

Knot: With right sides together, stitch a 1/4" seam allowance leaving both short edges open for turning. Bring seam to center on the underside. Stich a 1/4" seam on one end. Clip corners. Turn right side out through the opening and press. Topstitch opening with matching thread close to outer edge. Attach snaps to short ends of knot.

Tie around neck with a loose knot. Wrap the open knot around the bow and tie as one. Snap knot in place. Tighten knot in tie if necessary.
