Ch 7, join with sl st to form a ring (or skip this step and begin with Magic or Adjustable Ring method).

Rnd 1: Ch 5 (counts as first dc), dc into ring. * ch 2, dc in ring, repeat from * 6 more times, ch 2, join with sl st in 3rd st of beginning ch of this round (start of 9 dc sections).

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc into same space, * ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, ending ch 3, join with sl st in 3rd st of beginning ch of this round.

Rnd 3: Sl st to center of next chain space, * ch 7, sc in next chain space, repeat from * around.

Step: 3

DIRECTIONS FOR BAND

Ch 9. Working with these ch sts only, sc blo in 2nd ch from hook, sc blo 7 sts across. (8 sc) On body of hat, skip one dc and sl st to brim with RS facing. Turn. Sc blo 8 sts across. Ch 1, sc blo 8 sts across. Skip one dc on body of hat and sl st to next dc. Continue in this manner until all dcs on body of hat have been attached with sl st to band (72 rows). Do not join to original ch 8. Work 8 more rows in sc blo. (8 sts) Break yarn. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Stitch button (non-functioning) to center of 8 rows last worked, and tack down to band.
