- #4 medium weight yarn: Approximately 4 oz (114 g) / 250 yds (228 m)
- Boye® size US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

20 sts = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch using larger needles. Take time to check your gauge.
- Instructions are given for solid color mittens. To make striped mittens as shown, change colors every four rows.
- Mittens for both hands are knit the same.
- Three basic sizes are given to fit children, women and men. To adjust for intermediate sizes, change length as desired or use a larger or smaller needle size to change gauge. A slightly larger mitten will be more comfortable, but takes more body heat to keep warm.
With smaller needles, cast on 28 (34, 40) sts loosely.
